Effective prevention
We believe effective HIV prevention means:
- hard-hitting messages about the reality of HIV that make it clear why avoiding HIV remains so important
- the promotion of safer sex community norms to counter the normalisation of bareback sex
- ensuring the best information and support is available to those who slip up
- effective messages targeted at those most vulnerable, and those who have sex with them
- working with those that profit from gay sexuality, to encourage maximum responsibility
- research to identify the factors that encourage barebacking, and what can be done to effectively counter these factors
- telling the real-life stories of gay men with HIV, as well as promoting the various ways in which gay men manage to stick to safer sex
- developing a 'welcome pack' to educate newcomers to the gay scene about HIV prevention
- motivating gay men to help one another stay negative
